BMW 188K 188LW LSD Install Kit
This set suits the 188K / 188L / 188LW differentials from late 1997 onwards, to suit most 6 cylinder vehicles with the medium sized taper-bearing or ball-bearing diff. It fits all of the common E38, 39, E46, E53, E60, E90, F-series, 323i, 325i, 328i, 330i, 525i, 528i, 530i, 730i, X3, X5 and many others. It includes:
- 7 Piece Shim Kit
- 2x Genuine Carrier Taper or Ball Bearings
- 2x Genuine Output Seals
Use this kit if you are installing a new LSD, and not installing a new ring and pinion. This kit does not include any pinion bearings or an input seal. This kit contains the same 7 piece shim kit which is listed separately, plus two LSD carrier bearings and two output shaft seals. The bearings are the strongest available for this diff, and eliminate the common carrier ball bearing failure on the >2008 cars. This contains all that is needed to fully blueprint the LSD installation. The LSD can be moved in increments of 0.05mm ensuring total control over pre-load and backlash. This is the only kit available anywhere which offers such control. Nothing else comes close to this level of precision.
You can select either taper bearings or ball bearings. The ball bearings are factory fitted to E90 and later. They offer a significant reduction in drag and an increase in fuel economy, but longevity may be limited to around 100,000Ks. Taper bearings are factory fitted to E39 and E46. They are early style bearings which are stronger and generally last 2-3x as long as ball bearings. No locally sourced Chinese made seals are stocked or supplied at Diff Lab.
